New entries on my blog about Google and search results:

I want to be on the first page of Google!

Four quick bullet points to get you on that first page:

1. Trust: old websites have an advantage the longer you are around the better you are trusted by the big boys

2. Optimization: make it easy to parse your pages use a professional

3. Keywords and competitors: it's not good to compete with Amazon Be specific dont use easy simple keywords.

4. Backlinks: the better the links, the faster your site will be listed

The more backlinks a website has, the quicker Google will pick up the changes on your website. If your website has great content but only a few backlinks, then it won't get high rankings. can help you!!!!

Quality coding of your web site

From Search engine facts:

Webmasters are not sure about the importance of valid HTML code. Some think that it is very important while other say that it doesn't matter. Last week, Google said that valid HTML code is a quality signal.

Google and Flash

Some webmasters prefer to have a pure Flash website because they can look very impressive. Although Google can index Flash content to some extend, it is very unlikely that a Flash page will get high rankings on Google. Even the noscript tag won't help you.

Web page loading speed is important:

Web page loading speed is important

Page speed has become a ranking signal

Searchers tend to be happier if they get what they want as quickly as possible. Although site speed is only a minor factor in Google's ranking algorithm, it makes sense to optimize the performance of your pages.

To do: make sure that your web pages load as quickly as possible. announces an order to create a new web site for Outdoor Solutions of Cass County Missouri. announces an order to create a new web site from a top real estate company in Johnson and Miami County Kansas, Rural KC announces: We will be creating a new web site for Coffey County Kansas.
Tip #2 Social media

Social media a must?

Search has become social

Social signals such as the number of Google +1 clicks, Facebook mentions and tweets now influence the position of your website on Google's result pages.

To do: add social sharing buttons to your website and encourage your website visitors to mention your website on social networks.
New update about Google and rankings:

Tips for your web site

From Alexandra search:Scraper websites or websites with low quality content don't get high rankings anymore. Due to these changes in Google's algorithm, some websites saw a traffic drop of 75% or more.

To do: don't try to promote your website with quick-fix solutions. Quality is more important than quantity.

Keep your web site updated and current!Blog....Facebook do things!

Neat post about IT services on my blog

A neat tip on IT services

Get Serious About IT Support

Too many small businesses lean on an employee or friend "who knows a bit about computers" to manage their IT needs. But if you're serious about your business's growth and longevity, you need to get serious about IT support by either hiring an IT professional or using an outsourcing firm. The cost will pay off the first time you get the blue screen of death.

If you need IT support please let me know and I can guide you to a great company.

The $1.99 web site what a deal or is it? Go see my blog at

Look close at your web offer before you jump

Recently we investigated a company that offered $1.99/mo web hosting! Wow oh wow what a deal or was it. When we dug into the fine print that $1.99 was only for standard hosting of a very small web site. If you wanted a bigger web site oh that cost more. OK bigger web site more megabyte and Gig usage, guess what...that was more money. Oh you want spam filtering and virus filtering too that was more money. You want more than one e-mail address...more money. You want support..more money and you had to get a support ticket before they would help you. I forget to mention there was a charge for an English speaker!! OK I stretched the truth on that one but not far! Bottom line what started out at $1.99 quickly was past the $60.00/mo mark and that was only just the beginning. I write this because often time companies try to trick you into thinking you are getting a great deal when in reality you are not. I ask you to think local, think American, see that companies such as ours do not charge for our spam filtering, speak clear English, we do not ask for a support ticket. Do you want 5 or 10 e-mail addresses no problem! You want unlimited bandwidth, no problem. Take a look at and see those little hidden things are already included at a very fair price.

Happy Holidays!

Joe Rossini

OH Yes Merry Christmas!!!!

A neat tip in my blog at

Manta tip

This is a very good tip:
Use Your Invoices for Marketing
If you send your customers an invoice in print or electronically, use the invoice to promote your product or service. This is also a valuable touch point to thank your customers and prompt them to learn about other things you offer. Some effective messaging for your next invoice might be; "Thank you for your business. Give us a call to learn more about our frequent shopper program."

New blog post about Blogger and your search engine standing!

Does blogging help your standings?

I believe that if you want to help your search engine standings use a Google Blog...Blogger and then write to it and often. Google likes it and will look at it favorable. I can not guarantee this but experience has led me to that conclusion. Need a blog I can help you!
New blog post on Joe's blog. I wrote about what to put on your new web site:

What should you have on a web page?

I am often asked Joe what do I need on my web site and I look back and say, what do you do best in your business. I start with who are you, what is your history, what products and services do you offer. What makes you different from the rest of the pack. I also say have a good contact form and also add a blog, add a facebook fan page, add an e-mail capture form to start to build your own list of prospects. There is much more of course but this gets the grey matter turning and now you are on your way to knowing what you are going to put on a new web site.
I just read that firms are looking for digital sales people! ..m I think that is me;)
Two new blog entries on my blog. One is a tip of the day and another is about Google Adwords.

Google Adwords do they work

I recommend trying Google Adwords to get you highly placed in the search engines fast under select key words. You must watch it closely and change and adapt fast but if you do that then you can get some significant traffic to your web site.
I can guide you, manage it or just help you set it up for a fee and let you take it from there.
The more you use Google products like Adwords, Adsence, Blogger the better you are to Google!!

Manta tip of the day

Always Measure Your Marketing
It's essential that you have a clear understanding of what works and what doesn't. The easiest way to figure this out is to ask where prospects heard about you. Then you can evaluate the cost of that channel vs. number of prospects reached.

A new blog posting about Flash and you might want to read it:

If you have a flash web site read this

Recently we encountered some problems with our web sites that used some flash animation and the reason was Adobe had updated its Flash and made a booboo or at least a small one. We quickly shifted away from the program we used and used one that did not use Flash. I would say tens of thousands of web sites across the country experienced the exact same problems as we did.

Just a few days ago Adobe said it was giving up on its Flash for hand held phones. What is next you ask? I think Flash as a product will be dropped and not supported in the near future.

If you are using a Flash web site, please consider shifting over to an HTML CSS supported web site in the near future. Google has often said it does not spider Flash web sites easily thus the rankings may be downgraded. A professional HTML web site is easily supported by all the browsers and search engines so switch soon and when you do, give a chance to write your next web site.

Internet routing glitch kicks millions offline
:::Threat Rank: Medium

The seemingly indestructible Internet relies on a few backbone systems to keep traffic flowing smoothly. Sometimes, one of those systems blips -- and millions of devices get abruptly kicked offline.

That's what happened Monday morning, when a software glitch in the Internet's wonky sounding "Border Gateway Protocol" created a ripple effect that crashed data networks around the world.

The outage appears to have originated early Monday with Juniper Networks (JNPR), a company that makes router hardware for large networks. A set of updates to a core Internet routing protocol triggered a software glitch in some Juniper's routers. When those routers crashed, key Internet pathways went down with them.

Time Warner Cable (TWC, Fortune 500), one of the largest Internet providers in the United States, suffered a short but widespread blackout. "We appear to be recovering from a large but brief internet outage affecting most of our service areas," the company wrote on its customer-service Twitter account.

But Time Warner's problem most likely originated even further upstream: Level 3 (LVLT), a so-called "tier 1" network and one of the key Internet gateways in the U.S., got caught in the crash.

What to do: If you are still experience connection problems, contact your Internet Service Provider for more assistance.

Stealing a coyright is a Federal violation

Seems like every year one or two people come to us and say just take that or copy that and we tell them no I am sorry that is a violation of copyright law. What is amazing is how many web people will risk their home their lively hood even jail for just a few hundred dollars. Please remember that unless you asked for and were granted copyright for a work then it is not by law yours but it is the person who created it.

Bottom line web people, wake up and know that the penalties are stiff and you can get caught

Web creation is not easy or a snap

I have to write this because I just have to. I am tired of people just saying oh that is easy Joe just cut and paste or I am going to use someone else's articles or pictures you can do that its the net. Or heck you can do that on Word why cant you do it in a web page!

Bottom line ladies and gentleman writing a web page is not easy especially if it is a complex one and not just a simple template. If it was so easy to do then why would the almost 70% of small business people who dont have a web site have not done it. It is a science, it uses creativity and it takes time.

The next time you go and tell a web person who ever it is that oh that is so darn easy you can do that in a few minuets that web person should politely smile and walk away!!!

Tips for marketing on social networks.

Marketing on social networks requires more of a focus on the human element since its more about building relationships then it is your technical knowledge. There's no way around it, social networking for business requires building trust with others which requires time and interpersonal skills. You notice I did not say effort since making 'friends' should be more an act of enjoyment and not regarded as labor!

In order to get the best results when social networking for business here are 3 things you will need to do.

Exercise Patience

Take off your selling shoes and pull up a chair so you can get to know people. Building relationships is an absolute must to even get notice on any social sites and as you know this takes time. Even if you are only social networking for business time must first be taken to develop some type of bond with others or you will be invisible to them and useless to your business!

Establish Credibility

The bonds you do develop need to be meaningful insofar as maintaining a knowledgeable, professional and always helpful profile. For any marketing attempts to be successful people must first have some confidence that you know what you are talking about and that your intentions are good and not all business. Your best results will come ONLY after you have taken the time to develop this good reputation with others.

Develop Trust

The most important 'component' of the reputation you develop is trust! As touched upon above your reputation must be a positive one that reflects credibility but building trust is just as, if not more important. If people can not trust in you then any efforts you put into social networking for business will be wasted. People can not be expected to part with their hard earned money if they lack faith in you so obviously building trust is a priority. The best way to achieve this trust is to make a habit of being helpful or freely offering any type of information that may be of use or interest to others. Do so without any expectations of receiving anything in return and people will quickly regard you in a trustworthy manner. Besides, it feels good to be helpful to other!

There is no need for technical skills when marketing on social networks just simply be willing to pull up a chair and stay for a while. Tapping into the viral potential of these communities will require building relationships with others first and this will take time and patience. By building trust with people in this way simply makes it easier to effectively promote to them in the future. It is very important to remember these are in fact social communities therefore your acceptance MUST precede any marketing efforts. Once this acceptance is earned by following the 3 suggested steps above it will make social networking for business a breeze for you!

Why use Twitter

Why bother with Twitter? Twitter is a system of communication that can help your business engage with potential customers. Its one part press release, one part customer service line, and one part Frat party. There are countless ways you can connect with others using Twitter. There are also countless ways to waste time on twitter. The key is to be focused on connecting with those that have interests in line with your business. People often complain or ask for help on Twitter. This is a real opportunity. The press release concept is also a powerful way to get exposure if you don’t over do it.

Twitter is a very contagious trend. Asking, “Why bother with Twitter?” may come as a surprise to many business owners. Truly, there is no question Twitter can improve your business’ popularity in the online world as all the aspects of social networking can be found in Twitter.

Twitter lets you get in touch with virtually anyone: from your closest friends to people from all around the world. In fact, using the services of this social networking site could bring you the following benefits:

• You can get as many followers as you want and ask them to interact with you – as they say; communicating with your clients is one good way to keep them hooked to your business. For one, you can focus on your customers more as you connect with them on a more personal level and you can get them to send you their opinion easier.

• In just one post, you can let everyone know what your business is currently up to. You can update your followers with what you are doing with your business, and what they can expect from it. You can link to your site or Facebook page.

• It gets your message across fast. It takes little time for you to post and is very easy for followers to retweet or pass on your message. This is very powerful when followers resend your message to all of their followers, especially if there is a link to your site or Facebook page.

While using Twitter, there are a few things that you must remember. Below are some of the things that you must take note of to make sure your posts are effective:

• Make it short and simple – the whole point in using Twitter is giving your customers an overview of what you want them to know. It makes it easier to capture their attention if they can see it and understand it at once.

• Use URL shorteners to take advantage of the posting capability – you know that you are limited to only 140 characters, so how do you put your long URLs? This is where URL shorteners come in; such shorteners like will definitely make you put your message in a more convenient manner.

• Take time to put new content – refresh your tweets regularly. Making sure that your posts are updated would eventually strike your customers’ curiosity.

What’s best about this is that you get all your publicity free of charge, but be careful not to over do it. Followers will quickly tire of you beating them over the head with product information. In the end, answering the question “Why bother with Twitter?” can be summed up by understanding this: Twitter is something that you can harness to connect with those people that you can help. Further it allows you to offer helpful information to followers. Finally, you can keep followers up to date on your offering and your products. This can all be done quickly and efficiently by consistent tweets and links to your company properties. Your mindset needs to be one of giving and not taking.

New post on how to make your web site work for you!

Can you make your web site work for you?

The plain and simple answer is yes you can make your website work for you. You must have a commitment to the web site, you must update it often and use the web site as a sales and marketing tool. What do I recommend:

Look at your web site often and make sure your content is fresh

Make sure you have a Facebook business page linked to your web site and update that often also

I recommend you have a Linked in identity and link that to your web site

Add a coupon or sales discount that a person can use to save money. Give people a reason to come back again and again

More to come and if you want your web site to bring you leads contact me, I can help!
New blog entry about why not to use flash!

Why not to use flash in your web site!

This is a cool ad researched by Alandra search and it is very important:

Some webmasters prefer to have a pure Flash website because they can look very impressive. Although Google can index Flash content to some extend, it is very unlikely that a Flash page will get high rankings on Google.

What's the problem with Flash pages?

Flash content cannot be indexed by search engines. If your website is a pure Flash site, then you can be sure that search engines won't be able to see 95% of your website content.

Google has several official statements regarding Flash content:

"Search engines are text based. This means that in order to be crawled and indexed, your content needs to be in text format. [...] Any content you embed in these files should also be available in text format or it won't be accessible to search engines. [...]

We recommend that you use rich-media technologies like Flash primarily for decorative purposes, and instead use HTML for content and navigation."

"Make sure that your site has a reasonable, seamless experience for visitors without Flash.

This may involve creating HTML-only equivalents for your Flash-based content that will automatically be shown to visitors who can't view Flash."

Adding your content in the noscript tag won't help

Theoretically, adding your web page content in the noscript tag on your web pages should make sure that search engines get the right content. Unfortunately, Google's John Mueller indicates that this doesn't work anymore:

"One of the problems with noscript is - as others have mentioned - that it's been abused quite a bit by spammers, so search engines might treat it with some suspicion.

So if this is really important content, then I wouldn't rely on all search engines treating your noscript elements in the same way as normal, visible, static content on your pages. If this is 'just' for comments, then that might be worth considering."

What does this mean to your website

If you want to get a reasonable amount of visitors through search engines, don't use Flash and other multimedia elements for the main contents of your web pages:

Only use Flash for decorative purposes.
The navigation of your website should use regular HTML a href links. Do not use fancy JavaScript or Flash navigation menus. Most search engines cannot parse them.
The main content of your web pages should be available as simple text.

Neat new post about the value of a domain name:

A bit about domain names

This is a neat article about domain names and is a quick and easy read.

1 - The name shall have Development Value
2 - The name shall have .Dot value
3 - The name shall have Brand Recognition
4 - The name shall be Search Engine Friendly
5 - The name shall be Linguistically Viable
6 - The name shall have Traffic or Revenue
7 - The name shall have Industry Strength
8 - The name shall have Sales Value History
9 - The name shall have Intrinsic Value
10 - The name shall have Market Potential

1 - Development Value
A names base line value is based on the ability to use it. One of the primary issues we address in our DNA (Domain Name Analysis) is - Can this name be built into an instantly recognizable site whose name becomes synonymous with its content?
2 - .Dot Value's are, and probably always will be, more valuable than any other .dot designation. Even's, and's are by their very nature worth less on the open market. There are many reasons for this. One reason involves search engine rankings. Other issues pertain to the consumers hard to break habits. Note that .com is the internationally recognized extension for serious Internet business sites.
3 - Brand Recognition
Simple, familiar words work better than complicated, hard-to-spell ones. Short, catchy names in attractive industry segments are also very valuable. Kleenex is an example of brand recognition in the brick and mortar world. The brand name Kleenex was originally associated with facial tissue made BY KLEENEX ONLY. Because of powerful brand recognition however the name Kleenex came to literally equal ANY brand of facial tissue. "Will you hand me a Kleenex please". This is one of the areas where we rely heavily on our point of contact research and specialists experience with domain names. It is an area we do not analyze via computer algorithm. Rarely will any name receive an excellent valuation under this commandment unless it meets the above criteria AND carries the .Dot com extension.

New blog posted at about facebook

Why have a facebook ad?

Neat article off an RSS feed but it is very true!

VANCOUVER, BC, September 24, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Part 2: Facebook

Many business people tend to disregard Facebook, thinking it is for teenagers, or grandparents who want to post or view pictures of their grandkids. They just don't think that Facebook is to be taken seriously in the business world.

It's an easy assumption to make - Facebook is considered, after all, the father of "social" media. But business became social a while ago. If you study any of the TV commercials, websites or other promotional materials around, you will see companies asking their customers to 'like' them on Facebook for a promotion or discount and Facebook URLs and Twitter accounts are given where once website URLs were.

Like it or not, Facebook is a phenomenon that is not going to go away anytime in the foreseeable future. A profile or fan page on Facebook can obviously help with brand recognition but it can actually do so much more than that.

Firstly, Facebook is easy to integrate with other social media programs such as Twitter and LinkedIn. There are apps that will allow you to integrate blogs from your website or your Twitter feed. You should ideally be promoting your blog on both Facebook and Twitter whenever they are posted.

Secondly, make it easy for people to find your Facebook page. Add your Facebook URL and Twitter link to your email signature so it is available on every communication you send out.

Use your wall to post upcoming events, webinars, promotions, etc. Consider offering discounts (they don't have to be huge) to people who 'like' you on Facebook. You can also use your wall to let customers and business colleagues know your recent achievements, projects or interesting activities. Share good news with your 'fans', share interesting articles or link to videos that might interest your clients or colleagues.

Last, but by no means least, you can use Facebook to increase your business network. Go to your friends' pages and check out any mutual friends that you could also connect with. You can also use the 'Find Friends' button to expand your network.

Need to market your web site? Want leads? Contact me!
New post about Google in my blog:

New Google Info

Last month, Google announced new and extended sitelinks. The maximum number of sitelinks increased from eight to 12:

If Google decides to display sitelinks for your website, your site will get a much more prominent display than before.

How to make your sitelinks more attractive

Google uses the first 30-35 characters of the meta description tag of a web page for the snippets.

To increase the number of clicks on the snippets, you should optimize your meta description tags:

* The first 35 characters in the meta description tag should contain a clear description of the page and/or a call-to-action.
* Each page of your website should have its own meta description.

Note that Google updates the sitelinks of a website periodically. It may take some time before the new descriptions of your web pages appear in the sitelinks.

What is Google +1? visit my blog at

Google +1 what does it mean

This comes from Axandra search info:

What is Google's +1 button?

The +1 button is Google's answer to Facebook's "Like" button. It is a button that you can add to your website.

When one of your website visitors clicks the +1 button, your website URL appears on the +1 tab on the user's Google profile. Google wants website visitors to click on the +1 button when they find something interesting or recommendable.

What does Google do with the +1 clicks?

For people who are logged in to Google, their search result snippets might be annotated with the number of +1's that the listed page has received.

If someone who is connected to you through your Google account (Gmail chat list, contacts, etc.) clicked the +1 button, then the name of the person might be listed next to the search result snippet.

Google also announced that the +1 button will influence the search rankings of a page. The number of +1 clicks and the person who clicks on your +1 buttons might influence the position of your pages.

As it is very likely that spammers will try to use the +1 button, Google will perform tests before the +1 button has a major influence on the search results.

According to Google, the number of +1 clicks can also influence the position of an AdWords ad for the page with the +1 button.

How can you add the Google +1 button to your web pages?

It is very easy to add the Google +1 button to your web pages. The button is available in different sizes and different formats.

You can view examples and instructions here: How to add the Google +1 button to your web pages

What is Google's +1 button not?

The Google +1 button is not the same as the Google Buzz button. However, many sites have already replaced their old Google Buzz button with the new +1 button.

It is likely that Google Buzz functionality will also be added to +1. Google also announced analytics for the +1 button to show webmasters info on geography, demographics, content, and search impact.

Although Google's +1 button does not have a major impact on the position of your web pages in Google's search results yet, it does not hurt to add the button to your pages.

New blog entry on Joe's blog about sales:

Offer a solution and they will come

Had a tele call today with a perspective client, it was a conference call. The call went well but I could tell the client was sending out vibes that perhaps he was in trouble but did not want to say it but was asking for help in his own way.

Once the call was over I talked to one of my associates and we discussed the call and agreed, the potential client might be in trouble. I listened to my associate and his solution for the potential client and what I asked him was "do we have a solution that will work and save him money". The answer was yes. I said let me call the prospective client and see if he would be open for a suggestion from us.

The whole reason to write this is that if you listen to the customer and then offer a solution to his or her problem, the sale is almost anti climatic, the order should naturally follow.

Help the client and get the order that is what we often forget to do in sales but must always strive to achieve. Offer a solution and you more times than not will win!

More to come from Joe Rossini
A new blog posting about search engines at my blog:

How can you rank better in the search engines

This is a tough question but very valid. I am told by customers and potential customers that they want to be on the first page of Google! They scream and shout and say my competitors are there cant I be there??? I say yes you can with patience and with determination and persistence. They stare at me with open mouth because often those same people do not want to take the time and the effort or understand how hard it truly is in some instances to get on the first page of a moving target like Google.
You don't often look at your search keyword but like Rossini a famous composer I might add, there are almost 12,000,000 search pages. It takes a lot of effort to get in that first page. I blog, I facebook, I twitter, I linkin, I do search engine submissions and a lot more. Trust me, it takes time and effort and with the wink of an eye Google changes their algorithm and everything moves down or away based on their whims.

Now type in soap and you will see 125,000,000 web pages listed!! My whole reason for writing this is to tell you that getting ranked is not as easy as it seems. Ranking as I said earlier takes effort and time and yes a little luck.

More next time from Joe Rossini.........

New post on Joe's blog..

Content is important

When you create a web site, it often amazes me that a business owner can tell you verbally quite a bit about their products or services but can not seem to put it down in writing. I can not tell you how many owners I have met that just can not write or do not have time to write about their company. It is for this reason that we offer content creation services. It is our belief that you should spend your valuable time on growing your business and not being a web expert. Let us quote you a web page that comes complete with design, content, SEO internal programming, support and more.

More to come from soon.

What is a web directory? New post in my blog about them:

What is a web directory?

From Wikipedia: A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.[1]

A web directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords; instead, it lists web sites by category and subcategory. Most web directory entries are also not found by web crawlers but by humans.[1] The categorization is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only a few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

Most of the directories are general in scope and list websites across a wide range of categories, regions and languages. But some niche directories focus on restricted regions, single languages, or specialist sectors. One type of niche directory with a large number of sites in existence is the shopping directory. Shopping directories specialize in the listing of retail e-commerce sites.

Examples of well known general web directories are Yahoo! Directory and the Open Directory Project (ODP). ODP is significant due to its extensive categorization and large number of listings and its free availability for use by other directories and search engines.[
So are web directories important? The answer is yes, have your web person make sure you have been entered in them at least the big ones.

More soon...

Is your ranking in the search engine the most important thing? New Joe's blog

What really counts..rankings or leads?

I often wonder why is ranking so darn popular? Yes there is no doubt that being ranked high or on the first page is important. If you are past the second page well we know that people often do not look. What I say is... yes it is important but I have to add that what you sell must be wanted! I say if I can bring you leads and get the phone ringing then that to me is the bottom line and that is you make sales and money. Our company specializes in getting the phone ringing!

Talk soon

New blog post about Facebook:

Is Facebook really..real??

As Facebook continues to grow, I am starting to wonder as are others are is this going to last, will it be the tool that business needs and wants. I believe that Facebook is starting to show signs of the MySpace syndrome and that is there is a lot of junk starting to show up and yes you have Fan pages and pay per click but will the money flow in? I think for certain situations and companies, Facebook at least for now will work. Facebook is inexpensive and is another tool to be used by companies to advertise at a very affordable price.

So where does it leave our larger companies? The traditional web site with a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blog is still the best overall way to make money and profits. The power of programming for a web site continues to grow offering amazing options yet to be even touched by social media. My recommendation thus is....why not have it all!!!

More next time!

Have a great week.

A new post on the Rossini blog about latest tidbits:

news tidbits

Last week, Google was granted a patent that describes how Google might segment the content of a web page. Depending on the location of the content, a web page will get higher or lower rankings.

Also in the news: Yahoo introduces Search Direct, Matt Cutts talks about localized content and Google, Bing adds real-time results to news search, further information about Google's Panda update and more.

From Matt Cutts about Google Panda:

"The update is definitely not sitewide ? there are a number of sites we looked at where the update had only hit pages of a certain type. For example ecommerce sites where the category pages were fine but product pages were hit hard. [...]

This update is going to cause major issues for anybody that has a large site with product descriptions that are duplicated across lots of other sites. If you have a few of these it?s not an issue to rewrite them but a lot of big ecommerce sites have 10,000+ products and to rewrite those is going to be a major headache."

From Alexa news about paid links:

Once again, paid links are a hot topic in the search engine optimization community. The website of J. C. Penney had number 1 rankings for many competitive keywords. It turned out that the J. C. Penney website obtained these rankings through buying links on over 2000 pages.

The paid links were reported to Google and many of J. C. Penney's rankings dropped from number 1 to number 70 and below.

What are paid links?

If you pay the webmaster of another site to link to your website, then the link is a paid link. Paid links can be used to advertise your website on other sites. As long as the paid links use the rel=nofollow attribute, Google doesn't have any problems with them.

The problem arises when paid links are used to get higher rankings in the regular search results on Google.

Google is very clear about paid links

Google does not like paid links. According to Google's official statement, you should avoid paid links at all costs:

"[Some] webmasters engage in the practice of buying and selling links that pass PageRank, disregarding the quality of the links, the sources, and the long-term impact it will have on their sites. Buying or selling links that pass PageRank is in violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines and can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results."

Google even has an official form that enables you to report paid links to Google:

"If you know of a site that buys or sells links, please tell us by filling out the fields below. We'll investigate your submissions, and we'll use your data to improve our algorithmic detection of paid links.

More tidbits to come soon until then have a great week!

New blog entry about MLM web sites:

Beware of the web MLM trap

Recently I have become aware of a new phase in the Internet web creation world and that is the MLM(multi level marketing) of web sites. These new companies offer very cheap web sites and monthly hosting fees and promise a lot. I will not dispute that they deliver some impressive web sites but like a lot of MLM marketing, it tends to rise and fall. If your web site is on one of these MLM web sites and they go out of business or just shift focus then what do you do? I say go with an established web company that does this for a living and has been around for a while. How many times have I heard that my sister's brother's mother's aunt does web pages! Bottom lin eis a web site might look great on the outside but has horrific code on the inside! The search engines do not like bad code.

Moral of the story is that a web site can be the difference now between making it or not. Choose well and pick a winner.

More later.....

I added a new blog post on about growing your on line business:

Use every resource to increase your on-line business!

If you wish to grow your business on-line do not just rely on one source such as Facebook or Twitter or what ever, use it all! Yes I know this is easy to say and hard to do but budget your time and every morning or evening write in your blog, make a post to the social media groups, be proactive on Linkedin and add new contacts. Capture your e-mail visitors and do an e-mail blast to them. Do a newsletter once a month. Do PR releases and articles and submits to the search engines and on and on. Remember that you can do some yourself but maybe just maybe you can use help in the form of a professional that does this daily. There are companies out there that can help you in many ways and bottom line is, it is not only that you rank high in the search engines but it is the leads that come in and those that buy no matter how they came or found you. A lead is a lead and if it turns to a sale then all the better. Do not forget to ask where they found you so you can get a handle on your success.

I guess I am old school, I still believe in writing notes and making tele calls to market and going to meetings for face to face negotiations or support. Today, I have just added more and am using the internet to grow my business and my customer base and I know you can do it too.

So keep doing the old and reliable marketing but move into the new age and add that extra reach and marketing arm to your business. Oh by the way, I do happen to know a good marketing guy.....meeeee

Until next time

Gas prices are rising and so should your web usage!

Well in the last few days gas has spiked over twenty cents a gallon in Kansas City. I think everyone knows why gas is surging and that is unrest in the Middle East and Africa. Now for another known...Oil companies are greedy and will take what ever reason there is to raise the price of gas and oil. Oh by the way did you know summer will soon be here and what happens you ask? People drive more, take vacations and yes gas prices rise again. The point of my blog today is that the net, is the biggest, best way to save money and fight these rising prices.

Use the web to send e-mail, dah you say...well sending an e-mail instead of a letter saves on postage, letterhead, time and yes gas to go to the post office.

Use the web to send a proposal to a client by writing it then pdfing it then e-mailing to the client. Once again, you save time, postage, paper, gas, wear and tear on your vehicle and more.

How about putting a full brochure of your products on your web site so your potential customers can see what you have. You can use the phone, call the prospect, guide them to your web site and demo right on line!

Now is the time to use the web, use it to increase your bottom line profits by savings of multiple items. I can help you if you need it just give me a call!

Until next time........

new post on Joe's blog about trying to fool Google:

It is not nice to fool Mr. Google!

This is an interesting article about trying to trick your way into the search engine rankings:

Here is a clip from the Wall Street Journal:

Google Inc. is penalizing Inc. in its search results after the retailer ran afoul of Google policies that prohibit companies from artificially boosting their ranking in the Internet giant's search engine.

Overstock's pages had recently ranked near the top of results for dozens of common searches, including "vacuum cleaners" and "laptop computers." But links to Overstock on Tuesday dropped to the fifth or sixth pages of Google results for many of those categories, greatly reducing the chances that a user would click on its links.

This big company should not have tried to fool Google but it tried and got spanked. Do not use link farms, do not try to spam the search engines. use legitimate approaches such as blogs, Face Book, Twitter and Linked in Posts and yes also use this great new site called I really like it and it is a nice change of pace from Facebook.

Bottom line, seek the advice of a professional and let them guide you. Oh by the way, I just happen to know a good one so just ask oh yea me again oh well ok I can help you.

Have a great day...until next time

Joe posted a new blog about blogging

Do you need a blog?

Many people I talk to these days tell me why should I have a blog, I have facebook and twitter! Yes these social media giants are a must have today I will agree but a blog still carries a lot of weight. A blog can and often does make you look good in the eyes of the search engines. Many will even tell you like me that if you have a Blogger account, (a Google product) you might just get noticed a bit more by Google. If you do not mind getting on once a day or so and telling the world a story or two or share important information about an area that you know about then I say do it. If people start to find you and read you and start to depend on you for information or for just plain interesting tidbits then before long you will have a following and then comes potential profits and sales.

A blog can be fun, it can be a challenge but in the end it can be rewarding not only to others but to you too. So blog away and if you need help with setting up your own blog on your web site, just give me a call and I will help you.

More next time, until then have a great day!!!Joe Rossini
This is interesting:According to several online sources, both, search giant Google and social networking giant Facebook, are competing head to head to buy out Twitter.

With more than 175 million registered users worldwide, Twitter was the pioneer of the micro-blogging space.
Key word of the day is smile!

There is a new post on Joe's blog about search engines, go take a look

Is there more out there than Google?

Conventional wisdom will say there are only three (Google, Yahoo and Bing), but this is not true. Did you know that there are millions of other search engines out there! Millions of web savvy surfers use search engines with names such as Lycos, Dog Pile, Excite, GigsaBlast and much much more. I tell my customers that I submit to more than the big three because why lose out on those millions of others out there. Yes you need to be in the big three but it does not hurt to be in those others too. Oh yes, while you are at it, you need to be in the directories too. You are now asking what the bleep are directories? Well many of the big boys go to these directories to find you too. You should be in those directories also.

As you can see, it takes more than just submitting to Google to get noticed. I believe in a total attack plan to bring leads. It takes planning and strategy and time. If you give it that time, you can see results and of course sales and profits.

Until next time....

Joe Rossini posted a new entry in his blog about web linking.

Web links

Did you know that when you write or create a web site, you should have internal links that point to various pages on your web site. An example would be a solar power web site, the first page mentions solar panels, this word should be linked to the solar panel web page in your web site. The search engines like internal and external web links. Internal linking usually does not have as bad of an effect on your rankings as when you try to use linking farms that put thousands of robo links into your web site. Robo linking is now frowned upon so be careful. Internal linking is a good link and the big search engines do not penalize for this.

External inbound links to your web site are good if they are real and relate to what your web site is trying to say or sell. Some what we call in the business as landing pages can work if they are each different and have text that is unique and relates to your web site. Cross linking to your vendors is also a good inbound linking strategy.

A bit about Greg:

I am a 24-year resident of Johnson County and have been associated in some way with JCCC for most of those years. I have served on the Foundation Board of Directors, helped with scholarship fund raising, worked to coordinate planning and development between the college and the City of Overland Park, and for the last two years have served on the Executive Committee of the JCCC Foundation. I have also benefited personally from JCCC as my eldest daughter earned College Now credit at JCCC, my niece and nephew ran track and cross country at the college, and I have attended many fantastic events at Yardley Hall.

The importance of JCCC to this community has always been obvious to me. It allows our high school students to accelerate their college credits at a very reasonable cost, it prepares our graduates to move on to a four-year college, it trains and re-trains workers for our leading businesses, and it brings arts, culture and high quality sporting competitions to our doorsteps.

I am running for the Board of Trustees because I believe the future growth of Johnson County and the metropolitan area will depend on our commitment to high quality and highly valued post-secondary education. The jobs of tomorrow will be dependent upon a higher level of training, more technology, and more continuing education than in the past. JCCC has to play an important role in keeping our economic engine growing and going.

Please look through this site for more information about me, my family, the people who know me and my goals for Johnson County Community College. Then I hope you will consider supporting me - first with your vote, but also by sharing this information with your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Make sure they know that an important election will occur on April 5, 2011.
