This post is about one of my customers new product Radiant Barrier

Radiant barriers are installed in homes—most commonly in attics—to reduce summer heat gain and winter heat loss, this helps lower heating and cooling costs. The barriers consist of a highly reflective material that rejects radiant heat rather than absorbing it.

Heat travels from a warm area to a cool area by a combination of conduction, convection, and radiation. Heat flows by conduction from a hotter material to a colder material when the two materials touch. Heat transfer by convection occurs when a liquid or gas is heated, becomes less dense, and rises. Radiant heat travels in a straight line away from the hot surface and heats anything solid as the wave of energy hits it. When the sun heats a roof, it's primarily the sun's radiant energy that makes the roof hot. A large portion of this heat travels by conduction through the roofing materials to the attic side of the roof. The hot roof material then radiates its gained heat energy into the cooler attic. A radiant barrier reduces radiant heat transfer from the roof to the attic space. Radiant barriers are installed in homes—most commonly in attics—to reduce

Infected compputer now what?

10 easy steps to clean your infected computer
You get a cold. You don't go to the doctor because...it's just a cold. A week later, it's blown up into a full-scale double ear and sinus infection. Now you've got to drag your miserable body to the doctor's office for antibiotics and sit in a crammed waiting room while your head throbs and your nose oozes. The first round of antibiotics doesn't work, so you go back to get a new prescription and some ear drops because you can't hear out of your right ear. Meanwhile, you've missed a week of work.
Thank God cleaning up an infected computer is so much easier.
Are you worried about what to do if your computer has an infection? Check out our article on 10 steps to scrub malware from your infected PC. So simple, even a garbage-eating billy goat could do it (though it'll probably stare at you with its crazy eyes the whole time).

Content

One of the most forgotten items or areas on a website might amaze you and that is that some companies just do not know what to say about themselves. You spend time and money, make your site look pretty but cant seem to say a word about your company. It is important to tell a story about your company. It is also important to the search engines that your story is on yur web site, has links in and out and is written well. If you do not have any ideas, let us help you, we have content writers that can research and come up with some very nice information for you.  Yes this cost money to do but not as much as you might think and it will save you time.

Content should include keywords in the content and there should be links to other areas in the website. Keep your content relative direct and to the point and I recommend not getting too verbose so as to lose your readers interest.

If you can put pleasing and relevant pictures near your content that draws attention or keeps attention and remember that content is always king!
So write, tell the world what you want them to know and if you need help just ask me, we can.

Until next time......

Just nuts and bolts

This may seem like I am just repeating myself but it is important to just say it. First, if you have an older web page that is or was made years ago, update it even if just a touch up. The touch up helps and will help you in the search engines. I just helped a company that had made a free Webly web site years ago with just some touch ups and by helping them for a few hours, it not only looked better but they are now in several catagories showing up on the first page of Google. Was it Joe's magic (of course) :) well a bit but also the search engines like change and we did just that.

What did I do to help out my client you ask? I updated all their keywords and descriptions internally. We wrote new text on each page and we put in new pictures.  Bottom line is it seems to be working.
It is the client that participates or gives you full control that I can help the most. Clients that are very close to the vest and will not allow you access are the ones that are often impossible to please. So a word to the wise, give your SEO specialist some room to maneuver or do not hire that person at all.

Blogging is not easy, ti takes time and thought and sometimes no one listens:( but believe me it is good to have and eventually if you tell people about it, you will get a following and they will await yur next blog post. As you can see I chose Blogger (Google product) because they like when you use their stuff:) Blog...Blog...Blog

Facebook away I use this too, sometimes you gotta wonder if it is useful for business but the more exposure you have, the better it is. Find me on Facebook and ask to be a friend, I post there too.

Twitter, I post there as well but sometime 140 characters gets limiting. I actually think that they will expand this a bit in the near future. I find the quick posts and news to be interesting and if I have a new announcement I post here and have seen an uptick when using this.

LinkedIn I really like it a lot and post here a lot. I like it because you can join groups that relate to your business and join them. Many people are on personally or as a business why not do both:) Join and post you will see the benefit and some good news comes over this medium.

Google+, I cannot say much other than because it is Google I am there but honestly it seems like a massive flop to me and would not be surprised if Google did not phase it out someday as an experiment that did not work.

There are others, wont go into those just yet but I do use some of those also. I see more coming on line soon and older ones slowly passing into history.

What about the web itself, what do I think? I have been involved on the net since 1994 and actually saw a piece of it in 1989! Yes I am a bit older than most on here. Looking into the future I see a much changed net with much faster speeds and new products to use on it. Many of us are now streaming video and have dumped cable and the big boys like HBO are following the trend and starting to stream. Streaming means speed and I have a fast pipe but it is still at times not fast enough so the have and the have nots may just start to show up. Remember dial up?? Believe it or not some people are still on dial up and thus all the new gizmos and bells and whistles will not be available. I see satellite streaming becoming more viable where high speed is not like Hughes but very very fast and this will allow more people to join the uncable generation! Retailers and people wanting your business will use this new faster medium to entice you with smell a vision and touch a vision and more yes I am stretching here but it is coming soon. That old web page might just really have to be upgraded to keep pace.:)

Well enough ramblings for now, if you like what you read tell me. I am jrossini@rossini.com. Tell me what  you would like to read and I will try to keep you posted.

Until later....
Joe

Retail theft

This is an interesting article about retail theft basically concerning small business owners:

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -
The Kansas City Police Department is warning small mom-and-pop business owners and credit card holders about a fiendish way criminals have found to steal.
It's a crime that has occurred in other parts of the country but hit Kansas City this weekend.
"We hadn't heard of it in Kansas City until obviously this weekend," said Kansas City Police Department Sgt. Rob Rickett. "It is something we want to hurry up and get a jump out in front of."
Stores use satellite dishes to transmit credit card information after a purchase is made, but for smaller businesses the transaction may not be processed immediately. Thieves are climbing onto rooftops and covering up the satellite dish with aluminum foil.
This prevents the transactions from being transmitted to the credit card company. Police say this allows thieves to use counterfeit, maxed-out or even stolen credit cards.
The thieves are long gone before the retailer realizes the transaction is being rejected.
Kansas City police say this occurred at least three times over the weekend and possibly a fourth time. Some retailers could be victims and not even know it yet because the machine will show the purchases to go through.
The department is warning businesses that transmit credit card information to lottery transactions by satellite to be aware of this scam. Owners and managers should be on the lookout for anyone climbing on store roofs.
Rickett said police are working to determine if the crooks are using a fence, ladder or the roof of a vehicle to gain access to the roofs.
The three thefts  were in the 6200 block of St. John Avenue, 8700 block of Northwest 112th Street and the 2100 block of East 39th Street. In the St. John Avenue theft, the suspect used a fraudulent credit card to purchase $1,665 worth of cigarettes.
If a satellite is covered with foil, contact police immediately and do not remove the foil. Officers will need to process the area as a crime scene.
"If they use any type of technology like that [satellite dish to transmit credit card transactions] and they have an unsecured rooftop, it's probably a good idea to check their communications," Rickett said.
He suggests checking the equipment at least every other day.
