The new web page!

I can not tell you how much web page design has changed since 1995 and when we all thought that blinking text was way cool! How about the ability to link to another URL! Getting into Yahoo and Lycos was a breeze back then and Google was far into the future! Yes things have changed from the good old days. Now we have Cascading style sheets, we have underlying CMS databases, we have e-commerce and so much more.  Now the web is morphing again into web pages that can be seen on a tablet or an I phone or Android and more. This programming is not like it use to be.  This programming takes time and effort and yes thought. If a client says wow me, you can do that with traditional html but will it work on an phone? The new programming is not or doe snot offer as much room for flashy at least not yet but it does allow for cross compatible browsers and devices.  The choice is yours, Flash use to be the next best thing, it is now going away but not yet dead. Table programming use to be the way to program and now well it is several generations of programming behind.  My point is if you want a web site done right, choose a professional service that will ask you the right questions and make the correct decisions for your business.

E-mail does it still work?

The post office our dear old friend just announced another price increase effective January 1, 2013. This increase will effect all of us that still use stamps and snail mail for anything. Years ago I was around when e-mail became popular and wow it did not take long for it to really impact our thinking.  We for the first time could send a message so fast to anywhere in the world and get a reply back sometimes in seconds! How awesome was this new medium and frankly it has changed the world as we know it.  Do I think the post office will go away....no not soon but perhaps someday yes. Is e-mail still as powerful as it was when it first started?  I say yes and still it's importance grows. I know we have social media now and all those ways to communicate but to me an e-mail is fast and painless. I do believe e-mail will continue to evolve and heck you now have or can get video e-mail and secure e-mail and more.  So my thinking is right now, today, e-mail is a tremendous asset to your business and you can benefit by using it.

A word to the wise, do not spam, use a respectable service like Constant Contact if you want to send out a lot of e-mail. Have a program that captures e-mail addresses for you.  Once a person signs up, they are now an official opt in potential e-mail client. Use these lists, they can be important and can be a source of tremendous sales.

You must be involved

What I can not understand is that when you sign up with a vendor to do your web site then you just walk away then you are going to get what you deserve. If you do not take time to invest in what may be one of the biggest single investments in your business then you can not reap the true benefits that you can and should get.

Be involved, work with your vendor and then you should get what a web site is designed to do and that is to brand you and bring you exposure.
