Offer a solution and they will come

Had a tele call today with a perspective client, it was a conference call. The call went well but I could tell the client was sending out vibes that perhaps he was in trouble but did not want to say it but was asking for help in his own way.

Once the call was over I talked to one of my associates and we discussed the call and agreed, the potential client might be in trouble. I listened to my associate and his solution for the potential client and what I asked him was "do we have a solution that will work and save him money". The answer was yes. I said let me call the prospective client and see if he would be open for a suggestion from us.

The whole reason to write this is that if you listen to the customer and then offer a solution to his or her problem, the sale is almost anti climatic, the order should naturally follow.

Help the client and get the order that is what we often forget to do in sales but must always strive to achieve. Offer a solution and you more times than not will win!

How can you rank better in the search engines

This is a tough question but very valid. I am told by customers and potential customers that they want to be on the first page of Google! They scream and shout and say my competitors are there cant I be there??? I say yes you can with patience and with determination and persistence. They stare at me with open mouth because often those same people do not want to take the time and the effort or understand how hard it truly is in some instances to get on the first page of a moving target like Google.
You don't often look at your search keyword but like Rossini a famous composer I might add, there are almost 12,000,000 search pages. It takes a lot of effort to get in that first page. I blog, I facebook, I twitter, I linkin, I do search engine submissions and a lot more. Trust me, it takes time and effort and with the wink of an eye Google changes their algorithm and everything moves down or away based on their whims.

Now type in soap and you will see 125,000,000 web pages listed!! My whole reason for writing this is to tell you that getting ranked is not as easy as it seems. Ranking as I said earlier takes effort and time and yes a little luck.

What is a web directory?

From Wikipedia: A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.[1]

A web directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords; instead, it lists web sites by category and subcategory. Most web directory entries are also not found by web crawlers but by humans.[1] The categorization is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only a few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

Most of the directories are general in scope and list websites across a wide range of categories, regions and languages. But some niche directories focus on restricted regions, single languages, or specialist sectors. One type of niche directory with a large number of sites in existence is the shopping directory. Shopping directories specialize in the listing of retail e-commerce sites.

Examples of well known general web directories are Yahoo! Directory and the Open Directory Project (ODP). ODP is significant due to its extensive categorization and large number of listings and its free availability for use by other directories and search engines.[
So are web directories important? The answer is yes, have your web person make sure you have been entered in them at least the big ones.

What really counts..rankings or leads?

I often wonder why is ranking so darn popular? Yes there is no doubt that being ranked high or on the first page is important. If you are past the second page well we know that people often do not look. What I say is... yes it is important but I have to add that what you sell must be wanted! I say if I can bring you leads and get the phone ringing then that to me is the bottom line and that is you make sales and money. Our company specializes in getting the phone ringing!

Is Facebook really..real??

As Facebook continues to grow, I am starting to wonder as are others are is this going to last, will it be the tool that business needs and wants. I believe that Facebook is starting to show signs of the MySpace syndrome and that is there is a lot of junk starting to show up and yes you have Fan pages and pay per click but will the money flow in? I think for certain situations and companies, Facebook at least for now will work. Facebook is inexpensive and is another tool to be used by companies to advertise at a very affordable price.

So where does it leave our larger companies? The traditional web site with a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and blog is still the best overall way to make money and profits. The power of programming for a web site continues to grow offering amazing options yet to be even touched by social media. My recommendation thus is....why not have it all!!!
