Bilt Industries and industrial shelving

In the fall of 2004, Bilt Industries, Inc. purchased the Klip-Bilt II® and Quick-Bilt® shelving lines from the Frick-Gallagher Manufacturing Company. Designed at inception to be the leanest viable business in the shelving industry, Bilt is structured to rapidly adjust so as to insulate its customers from market forces.
Galvanized by a stalwart business model, Bilt immediately began carving out a place for itself and earning the loyalty of significant customers. It has since proven more than capable of preserving the high-quality specification that Frick-Gallagher first offered over 70 years ago. The fledgling company proved so successful, in fact, that by 2007 it had already introduced a new line of box shelves. An impressive rate of growth continued to afford Bilt opportunities to diversify. As the decade drew to a close, this manifested in the launch of both an HD modular drawer line and mezzanine construction services.
Today, Bilt Industries has two state-of-the-art roll formers, modernized tooling, and a painting process, known as powder coating, that mitigates its environmental impact. With a new 40,000 sq ft. corporate office/distribution center in the greater Kansas City area, Bilt is well poised to continue realizing its ambitions.

Our Mission: Maintain excruciatingly high product standards, develop personal relationships with our customers, perfect our ability to adjust to market forces, and continue investing capital in cost-abating technology.
The Klip-BILT II® combines rugged industrial strength with powerful ease of assembly. Optimized for both open and closed shelving, this unit is equipped with strongbox front posts that free up space and bolster its load-bearing capabilities. Lickety-Klip shelf clips secure each corner and allow for effortless reconfiguration as your needs change.
A sturdy, dependable compression clip, the Lickety-Klip is designed for holes pre-punched on 1 1/2" centers. Lickety-Klips can be readily deployed at whatever height you desire and, as they're independent of those in adjacent units, can be adjusted without hassle.
Shelves can be assembled and reorganized quickly using four clips and nothing else; no bolts or tools are required.
Starting with a basic post and shelf arrangement, shelf dividers and drawers can then be added according to your needs. From there you decide on whether you want an open or closed configuration. The former employs side and back cross braces, the latter side panels, back panels, and if requested doors.

Walmart and the future

Social Media and applications

  • Walmart is testing a new program in the Lawn & Garden Centers of more than 350 of its stores that outfits store associates with mobile point-of-sale technology to help customers check out and pay for their purchases on the spot, rather than having to go back inside the store to pay, according to a Walmart blog post.
  • Under the "Check Out With Me" program, associates are given cellular devices and Bluetooth printers, the latter so that they can provide customers with receipts, allowing them to leave and carry their outdoor department purchases (e.g. mulch, soil, and flowers) directly to their vehicles.
  • The new service arrives as Walmart continues to expand its in-store Scan & Go mobile checkout offering to more location

More about social media:

  • About 55% of consumers have made purchases via social media channels like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest, although 60% have never purchased a product promoted by a social influencer or celebrity, according to the 2018 Consumer Expectations Report from Avionos.
  • The report, based on a survey of 1,409 consumers, also stated that about 66% of those surveyed said that when they browse online, they begin by conducting searches on Amazon or Google, suggesting that major search engines have replaced traditional web browsing practices.
  • Regarding the role of physical retail, about 63% of consumers surveyed said they still prefer to buy big-ticket items like electronics or furniture in brick-and-mortar stores, and 52% admitted to researching these products online using either desktop or mobile devices.

  • Fashion brand Natori deployed Albert, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that drives autonomous digital marketing campaigns, to drive a 76% surge in social media revenue in six months, according to a press release. The brand's paid social media on Facebook and Instagram rose 18% in return on ad spend and boosted its 2017 holiday-related conversions by 84%.
  • Natori, whose brands also include Josie Natori, Josie and N Natori, targeted the discovery of new audiences on Instagram and Facebook with the Albert platform in an effort to drive visits to its e-commerce site and to increase social media conversions. Natori's data analysis helped the designer to update its content to resonate with changing consumer tastes.
  • Albert boosted Natori's online conversions by 24% in a single month after learning which creative combinations were driving the most conversions among different audience segments. Albert determined that custom carousel ads exceeded benchmarks and recommended that Natori's creative team find new ways to format content for improved performance.
Apps are here to stay and so is social media!

Human verses Robot

I am writing this to explain our recent experience at a large box store who I will leave anonymous, We were shopping this large store looking for just a part and we looked and looked. Finally, we found a worker who came up to us and asked us if we needed help and we immediately said yes. My wife and I explained what we were looking for and showed him our defective now crumbling part and he immediately took us to an area, and he found the exact part we needed. The man went on to ask us more questions and we told him more of our problems and he took us to another area to solve those problems. We were set and we left happy.  My moral to this story is, I do not believe a machine could have helped us. I do not believe a Kiosk could have helped us but a human being with knowledge did help us and I hope we never lose track of that. Service in a store be it big or small is a must have if you wish to compete. Go the little extra, show you care because a machine will never care!

Robots are coming, automated check out is coming but that little smile, that final question if you found everything you wanted is priceless.

I say that the suggestive sell by the store clerk or by a salesperson is priceless! Increase your sales by suggestive selling and you might be surprised what you get and find.

More to come soon.

Joe
