Why do I need a mobile website?

I don’t really understand the difference between a regular website and a mobile website. I already have a great website for my business—why should I spend more money on a mobile site? I mean, don’t regular websites work on phones?

  • The difference goes something like this: A standard website may not display and function properly on mobile devices like smartphones, mainly because of their size. For example, the text may be cut off, certain images may not display, and navigation can be difficult. A mobile website, on the other hand, is designed to work specifically on mobile devices like smartphones and tablets.

Bottom line if you can have both a mobile website and an APP!

More about APPS

What Are the Benefits of a Mobile App?

Sometimes, having a mobile app is better than having a mobile website. After all, there are some features present on a mobile app that just aren’t available on mobile websites. For example, GPS. A mobile website doesn’t offer a Google Maps GPS real-time directions option to help users see a map of where they need to go and direct them to a place of business. A mobile app, by comparison, does provide GPS services, allowing users to get directions and maps without having to go elsewhere to find them. Additionally, an app does a better job of keeping you connected with your customers. Once your users download your app to their desktop, the app “lives” on their phone, ensuring they are constantly engaged and entertained with various features right from their home screen. With an app, you can send your customers regular alerts, notifications, updates, and more directly to their mobile device, reminding them both of your app and your business. Another perk of having a mobile app is that it doesn’t require a WiFi/Internet connection, whereas a mobile website, like any other website, requires a connection to a browser. Finally, an app is often easier to navigate as it has a clear, user-friendly menu.

What Are the Benefits of a Mobile Website?

A mobile website looks a lot like a regular, web-based website because it’s built on the same programming language (HTML), and it runs on a mobile web browser. However, a mobile website is different from a regular website as it’s an abbreviated version of the website, and it’s designed to run faster on a mobile device. And just like other websites, mobile sites have icons, images, videos, text, and often links to other sites. Another advantage of mobile websites is SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. If you already have a regular website for your business, then you’re probably familiar with SEO. And a mobile site can be promoted with tools that are nearly identical to the SEO tools used by standard websites.

What’s the Difference Between an App and a Mobile Website?

At first glance, an app and a mobile website may look the same, and one could assume they are the same thing, as they’re both designed for mobile users. However, an app is something your customers download to their smartphone or tablet through an app marketplace such as Apple’s App Store or Google Play. A mobile website, on the other hand, is something that a user accesses through a WiFi signal or Internet connection using a typical web browser. A mobile website, moreover, can be found through search engines like any website.

The web playing field is changing again

Having been in the web business for over twenty years, yes that is right twenty years I have seen a lot come and go, mostly go. I remember when the biggest thing was people asking me to make something blink or to bold something. We used HTML 2 and now we are moving to HTML 5. We use to use tables in programming and now they are all but gone. Now CSS is at level 3, before it did not exist! How about CMS the ability to allow a customer to make changes on their own, now it is almost standard. We use to see Front page and now it really does not exist anymore. Blogging? What was a blog? Now it is important to have one. Social media, Facebook well we had AOL:) (You have mail). Remember all those diskettes you got in the mail with the AOL program, well now they are obsolete in fact most of our younger viewers do not even know what they are or were. CD-ROMS who uses them anymore...not many people. Remember Netscape, well now we have Mozilla and we have other browsers. I guess my point is so much has changed and will continue to change but it is good to know that are some things that have lasted the test of time and that is Rossini Management Systems, Inc. We have been here and lasted and we have seen change and embraced it and grown accordingly.

So when you search for a new web vendor or SEO specialist, go with a company with a proven track record and know that you would have chosen a company that has lasted the test of time and change while many others have not.

Until next time....
